BC HOCKEY MEMORANDUM

February 23, 2023

TO: BC HOCKEY MEMBERSHIP
FROM: CAMERON HOPE – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
SUBJECT: MULTIPLE RESPECT GROUP PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO BC HOCKEY MEMBERS AT NO COST

BC Hockey’s and Hockey Canada’s long-time partner, Respect Group, is offering an incredible opportunity to BC Hockey Members for a limited time only.
The Respect Group supplies many online training programs and tools that are used throughout our branch and nationwide to help make our game safer for all participants, volunteers and members. BC Hockey Members can now access several of these Respect Group programs at no cost until April 30th.
These tools are part of Respect Group’s ongoing commitment to players, parents, family members, caregivers, coaches and officials. They empower us to be the best we can be so we can all enjoy hockey together.
These positive, proactive programs offer an opportunity, for all of us, to help ensure a safe and respectful hockey culture.
See below for a description of the programs being offered to BC Hockey Members and a link to each one:

As a parent/family member/caregiver, you play a critical role in your child’s positive
hockey experience. This program helps provide you with the tools and insights to
be even more supportive.

Officials are key to the success of the game and beyond the rules, need to
understand their “duty of care”. If you are an official or interested in a new
perspective, this program is for you.

Adolescent girls leave sport at a rate of 2:1 to boys (Respect Group, 2022), so keeping them engaged requires greater understanding of their needs. For coaches or parents of young girls, this is an important program.

Designed specifically for players 10-12 years old, this program helps give your kids insights on finding their voice, helping to keep it safe and having FUN. Parents and kids, take it together!
