Every year there are numerous key volunteer positions that must be filled in our Association to make the season a success for our players and our Association.  These positions are often filled by a parent of a player, but need not be, as we've benefited over the years from many people who enjoy minor hockey and helping our athletes so much that they continue to support our Association even after their child has completed their time in Minor Hockey.  If you are new to Minor Hockey, or if you're just interested to know what positions may be out there for you to be involved in, please review the list and simple descriptions below.  If you'd like more information on these positions, or on how to become involved in one or more of these positions, please contact the President, Vice-President, or one of the Division Directors on the Executive.

Team Head Coach Although sometimes a demanding position, the Head Coach position can be an extremely rewarding one, and provides you with the ability to leave your mark on the success of the hockey education of each player.  No experience is required for coaching in the Initiation Divisions, as courses are available and excellent program material can be found from numerous sources including links on this web site.  Developmental courses are also available for more experienced individuals looking to coach more advanced levels from Atom to Juvenile.  Patience and good communication skills are an asset, and the ability to create fun for the players is a must!  You'll be required to plan practice sessions and create game plans and be able to communicate your objectives with parents and the other team officials.  Beside the coaching certificate required by the coach, Speak Out and Team First courses are also requirements necessary for the coach and all team officials.
Team Assistant Coach The Assistant Coaches are responsible for supporting the Head Coach's practice and game plans, while providing an opportunity for fun, supportive and safe hockey for all players.  Assistant Coaches are encouraged to take an active part in the coaching program, and are required to take a coaching course and both the Team First and Speak Out courses.
Team Trainer The Team Trainer assists the Head Coach by overseeing the safety factors for the team.  The Team Trainer needs to be HCSP (Hockey Canada Safety Program) certified, which is a one evening course.  First aid, or other official medical training is an asset, but not a requirement.  General duties include ensuring that all players have the correct approved equipment for their age level, and that it is worn at all on-ice events.  Also, should an on-ice injury occur, the Team Trainer (or HCSP person) is responsible for being the player injury evaluator and emergency care coordinator.  Team First and Speak Out are required.
Team Manager The Team Manager is a key position on any team, and a good team manager allows the Head Coach to concentrate fully on delivering a complete training program, without being disrupted by numerous administrative concerns.  The Team Manager is often a contact point for the parents, and good organization and communication skills are invaluable.  As the Team Manager, you will assist the Head Coach by coordinating team ice schedules with the Division Manager, coordinating enrolment in home and away tournaments, coordinating fund raising programs with the team and parents, and other administration requirements.
Team Parent Salmon Arm Minor Hockey encourages all parents to take an active role with their child's hockey team, even if it's just attending the practices and cheering on their child's team at games.  But usually there is one Team Parent who will assist the Team Manager in contacting other parents when games schedules or practice times are changed or added, or when other events may need to be arranged.
Division Manager Division Managers are liaisons between the Teams in the Division and the Division Director and/or the Executive.  Division Managers will oversee the placement of players on teams, arrange additional ice schedules with the Association's Ice Ambassador, or arrange for exhibition games at home or away for all divisional teams with other associations.
